Establishment of the Tri Forces Central Ammunition Armoury and Commercial Explosive Armoury Complex in a low density area

- The explosive ammunition used for the operational activities in the Northern and Eastern territories during the period of the army missions in the said areas, have been stored in different places temporarily and the approval of the Cabinet had been granted in the year 2011, to construct an armoury complex in a low density area, in accordance with the international standards, for the storage of the ammunition in an appropriate manner. Since it would be appropriate to store explosives at a place with a minimal population, the proposal made by H. E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to establish a formal armoury complex in Oyamaduwa area in the District of Anuradhapura, in accordance with the international standards, for the storage of explosives belonging to the Tri Forces and commercial explosives, which are being currently stored at different places, was approved by the Cabinet.
