Implementation of English Language Training at the Sri Lanka German Training Institute (SLGTI), Kilinochchi and Satellite Centres in the Northern and the Eastern Provinces

- With the objective of improving demand oriented vocational training in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, 'Vocational Training in the North and the East of Sri Lanka' Project is being implemented under a grant aid assistance of the Government of Germany. The Sri Lanka - German Training Institute (SLGTI) established in Kilinochchi under this project was declared open recently by H.E. the President and the training courses for NVQ Levels 4, 5 and 6 are scheduled to be commenced there. Further, 15 Satellite Centers will be established in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, providing access to the training courses in NVQ Levels 1 to 3. The Johannes Gutenberg - University of Mainz and the German International Cooperation (GTZ) Institute have come forward to provide assistance for the development of English Language proficiency of the students studying in the said Satellite Centers of the SLGTI. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe, the Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training, to enter into the Memorandum of Understanding for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
