Project to Upgrade and Popularize Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education in Schools
- About 65% of the employment in the future world is expected to consist of jobs related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). However, it is only 30% of students that follow the STEM education stream in Sri Lanka. Since this percentage is very low in comparison with the world employment market related to the educational field, the proposal made by Hon. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Science, Technology and Research, to popularize among children, the studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, to improve the learning processes related to science and technology subject and to implement a project to increase the STEM education in schools, in collaboration with the relevant other Ministries including the Ministry Education and to disseminate the knowledge on innovation to the school children, in an effective manner, was approved by the Cabinet.
