Vesting of the Vocational Training Centre located at Nilaveli in the Eastern Province with the Department of Divineguma Development

- With the objective of providing Vocational Training, the Divineguma Development Department implements various training programmes and practical workshops and such training programme and workshops are conducted at the training centres belonging to the said Department and at the Rural Development Training and Research Institute located at Borella. However, the training workshops and lectures conducted by the Department for the beneficiaries who reside in the Northern and Eastern provinces, have to be conducted in Colombo and they encounter various practical difficulties in taking part in such workshops and lectures and the Department also faces various problems in providing them with accommodation facilities. Therefore, in order to establish a Training Centre to conduct training programme to Divinaguma beneficiaries living in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, the proposal made by Hon. S.B. Dissanayake, the Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare, to vest the Vocational Training Centre Building situated in Gopalapuram, Nilaveli in the Trincomalee District, with the Department of Divineguma Development at a Government valuation of a sum of Rs.125 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
