Utilization of the provisions required for conducting the National Pirivena Day Festival
- The contribution rendered by the Pirivena Education, for the Buddhist Education and Culture in Sri Lanka is immense. At present, 64,606 of lay and clergy students receive education from 750 pirivenas which have been organized as Mulika Pirivenas, Maha Pirivenas and Vidyathana Pirivenas, 6,495 lay and clergy teachers are engaged in teaching in such institutions. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to conduct the Pirivena Day Festival which is held annually to appreciate the service rendered by pirivena institutions and their teachers as well as the creativity skills of pirivena students, this time at the Getambe Stadium, Kandy on 16th, 17th and 18th July 2016, was approved by the Cabinet.
