Resettlement of Internally Displaced Families reside in the Welfare Centres
- It is noted that by the end of March 2016, 251,000 internally displaced families who were affected by the conflict have been resettled in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. However, there are over 14,000 families yet to be resettled in those areas. Presently, 1,109 displaced families reside in the 31 welfare centres in the Tellippalai Divisional Secretary's Division and it is reported that 641 families out of these families are landless. In regard to the resettlement of these landless families, the District Secretary, Jaffna has identified 65 hectares of land belonging to the Kankasanthurai Cement Corporation. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, to release the above mentioned land identified for the purpose of resettling 400 landless families residing welfare centres at Tellippalai and to transfer the said land in favour of the Government, was approved by the Cabinet.
