Amendment to the Provincial Councils Elections Act, No.02 of 1988

- According to the present Government's policy towards the increase of female representation at least by 25% in the political decision making process, the proposal made by Hon. Faiszer Musthapha, the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, to publish the Provincial Councils Elections (Amendment) Bill prepared to incorporate provisions in the Provincial Councils Elections Act, No.02 of 1988 to include not less than 30% of the total number of candidates whose names appear in the nomination paper submitted by each political party or independent group in respect of each Provincial Council to consist of female candidates, in the Government Gazette and thereafter, to present the same in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
