Commemoration of 94th International Co-operative Day

- The Co-operative Movement can be described as a movement built by the people by themselves for the purpose of enhancing their economic and social well-being. The commemorative activities of the International Co-operative Day have been carried out by the United Nations Organization since 1975. The International Co‑operative Day of this year falls on 2nd July and as such, the proposal made by Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, to declare a 'Co-operative Week' from 25th June to 2nd July 2016 and to celebrate the Co-operative Day which falls on 2nd July 2016 at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, in collaboration with the members of the Movement, was approved by the Cabinet.
