Project for Computerization of subjects of the Department of Labour for enhancing transparency and efficiency of its activities
- The responsibility of enforcing service conditions, employment terms and employee welfare measures enacted by the Government from time to time, in compliance with the charters and recommendations of the International Labour Organization, to safeguard the human rights of employees and also protect them against occupational hazards, lies with the Department of Labour. With a view to computerizing the main subjects of the Department, the activities relating to designing of a computer software (Labour Inspection System Application - LISA) had commenced in the year 2010 with the assistance of the International Labour Organization. The basic objectives of the above programme are to obtain accurate data, to prevent the occurrence of duplication in inspecting institutions, to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the Department and to formulate an employee progress review system. The Cabinet of Ministers noted the information submitted to the Cabinet by Hon. W.D.J. Seneviratne, the Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations to the effect that after obtaining the staff and the infrastructure facilities necessary, the programme is to be completely undertaken and implemented by the Department of Labour by August 2016.
