Establishment of a 10MW Solar Power Plant at Vavuniya

- It is essential to develop the renewable energy generation, in order to cope with the increasing energy demand. It has been proposed to establish a 10 MW solar power plant at Vavuniya, at an investment of US$ 14.5 million by M/S Vydex (Lanka) Power Corporation (Pvt) Ltd. and it is expected to receive a contribution of 19 Gwh of power to the annual energy requirement. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Malik Samarawickrama, the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, to transfer a land in extent of 22 hectares at Kaththarasinna kulam, Nedun kulam, Vavuniya, to the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, as a free grant, as per the provisions of the State Lands Ordinance, to be leased out to the said company, was approved by the Cabinet.
