Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2016-05-17
Development of Batticaloa Airport
- As per the Government's policy on developing the civil aviation facilities in Sri Lanka, the Cabinet has granted approval in the year 2015, to construct a new terminal building and to renovate the Airport Runway, Taxiway and the Apron at the Batticaloa Airport, in order to develop the said Airport, to enable it to commence the operations of commercial passenger services. Accordingly, around 80% of the work has already been completed and as such, the proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to get the balance work done through the Civil Aviation Authority, was approved by the Cabinet.
