Construction of the double track between Polgahawela and Kurunegala on the Northern Railway Line

- Renovation of the railway lines of Northern and Thalaimannar, under the Indian Line of Credit, has by now been completed to a considerable extent and the proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, for utilizing the balance amount of US $ 30 million, estimated to be remaining unspent after completion of the project, to construct an additional railway track between Polgahawela and Kurunegala, parallel to the existing one, with an upgraded signaling system, with a view to reducing the travelling time of Northern Railway line, was approved by the Cabinet.
