Amendments to the Tea Control Act, No. 51 of 1957
- The proposal made by Hon. Navin Dissanayake, the Minister of Plantation Industries, to amend the Tea Control Act, No. 51 of 1957, strengthening the powers of the Minister to make regulations pertaining to reclaimable tea, using the term 'ප්‍රතික්ෂේපිත තේ' (re-claimed tea) which is more appropriate, instead of 'කසළ තේ', the word presently used in Sinhala, and increasing the maximum fine that can be imposed against any person who is guilty of an offence under the Act from Rs.50,000/- to Rs.500,000/-, and also increasing the maximum amount that can be charged on settling and offence, from Rs.10,000/- to Rs.500,000/-, was approved by the Cabinet.
