Commencement of 'Consultancy Services for Development of Basin Investment Plans for Selected Basins' under Climate Resilience Improvement Project

- The improvement of infrastructure facilities required for enhancing the capability of facing the hazards that could occur due to climate change is carried out under this project. Accordingly, under the first component of the project, it is anticipated to improve the infrastructure facilities of 10 basins selected on a priority basis, to identify the vulnerabilities of flood and drought that may occur in future and to mitigate such vulnerabilities. Further, under the second component of the project, it is proposed to improve the irrigation and transport infrastructure facilities damaged due to flood and landslides that occurred recently, and to renovate the sites/premises, where the school buildings prone to landslides are situated, using buffer walls. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa, the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, to award the consultancy contract for the activities of the first component, as recommended by the Cabinet Appointed Consultants Procurement Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
