Hosting of the 69th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for South-East Asia from 5th to 9th September, 2016

- The South-East Asia Region of the World Health Organization (WHO-SEARO) was established in 1948 and it provides leadership and technical assistance for the prevailing health issues and relevant policy alternatives in the South-East Asia Region, which is home to a 1/4 of the world population. Sri Lanka works closely with this Committee and the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to host its 69th Session to be held in Sri Lanka from 5th to 9th September, 2016, depicting the progress achieved by Sri Lanka in the health sector, to the world, was approved by the Cabinet.
