The payment of compensation for those who are affected due to Land Acquisitions made for the Development Activities Implemented by the Metro Colombo Urban Development Project under the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development

- Based on the objectives of the flood control in Colombo Metropolitan area and suburbs, infrastructure furtherance and institutional development, many constructions and renovations have to be done in the main cities and in the densely populated areas falling within the 56 sub-projects implemented under the Metro Colombo Urban Development Project and therefore, it has been planned to acquire private lands, too, for the proposed activities. As such, to implement this project without any delay and with the idea of granting maximum justice to the affected parties during acquisition and payment of compensation, the joint proposal made by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Finance and Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to make relevant the Land Acquisition (payment of compensation) regulations imposed by Gazette (Extraordinary) Notification No.1864/54 of 2014-05-30 containing the mechanism of paying compensation in the case of parties affected by the acquisition of lands for special projects, was approved by the Cabinet.
