Construction of Research and Training Complex at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna

- The Government of Japan has expressed agreement to provide a grant of Japanese Yen 1,667,000,000 (equivalent to approximately Rs.2,100 million) for the construction of a Research and Training Complex at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna. The main objectives of this project are to implement research programmes and education promotional activities on dry zone agriculture in the Northern Province in an efficient manner and it has also been designed to meet the future demands of the main agricultural sectors such as Animal Husbandry, Crop Science, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Biology, Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Economics through the development of specialized fields under the Faculty of Agriculture. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs to enter into an agreement in regard to a grant assistance with the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) for the implementation of this project, was approved by the Cabinet.
