The Task Force to Establish a Hill Country New Villages Development Authority

- The Ministry of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development is vested with the major task of establishing new villages and towns by enhancing the infrastructure facilities and housing development, in order to upgrade the social and cultural needs of the plantation community. A National Plan for the Social Development of the Plantation Community (2016-2020), has been launched by the Ministry and a proposal has been made to establish an Authority to implement the duties and responsibilities assigned to the Ministry both effectively and productively and to achieve the objectives and targets of the project within the anticipated time frame. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. U. Palani Digambaram, the Minister of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development, to set up a task force to draft a bill to establish the Hill Country New Villages Development Authority, was approved by the Cabinet.
