Appointing of a Committee of Experts for Continental Shelf Submission of Sri Lanka to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)
- Sri Lanka presented her Continental Shelf Submission to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) during the year 2009, regarding the matters related to the establishment of the outer edge of the continental margins of the countries, in the southern part of the Bay of Bengal. There is a possibility of taking Sri Lanka's submission for consideration by the Commission regarding the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) during the period of 2017-2022. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to appoint a Committee comprising of world renowned experts to uphold the submissions made on behalf of Sri Lanka and to face successfully, the counter views likely to be raised by the other countries, was approved by the Cabinet.
