The Use of 'Digital Marketing' Strategy for the Promotion of Sri Lanka Tourism
- The Tourism industry has become the most rapidly improving sector in Sri Lanka after 2009. According to the recent research conducted by 'Google', it has been revealed that more than 50% of the tourists of the world travel without having any idea whatsoever of their next travelling destination or where to lodge next. At present, more than 40% of the World population use the internet; and the Tactical Digital and Social Media Marketing which adopts internet as the medium, takes a significant place in paving the background for tourists to determine their traveling destinations and popularizing such destinations. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. John Amarathunga, the Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs, to implement a Tactical Digital Marketing Campaign, targeting the markets identified for promotion of tourism industry of Sri Lanka in 2016, was approved by the Cabinet.
