Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2016-03-30
Mobilization of Human Resources of the Tri Forces of National Development
- A large number of experienced officers of various ranks in the Tri Forces, with both technical and professional qualifications/experience, have to retire annually from military service on completion of 22 years of service or on expiration of the maximum length of time they are obliged to serve in the same rank. Out of them, a considerable number of persons are those who have acquired both technical skills as well as professional qualifications in the fields such as engineering, surveying, medicine, nursing, paramedical, technical and sports and when they go on retirement they are generally aged about 42 and 45 years and both mentally and physically fit enough to perform their duties further. The proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena to build up and operate a resource pool by the Ministry of Defence, comprising of the retired officers and those of other ranks who are professionally and suitably qualified in their fields with a view to harnessing their services more productively and as a solution to the dearth of technically and professionally competent officers to provide the opportunity to get the services of those retired and registered officers to the public institutions, on contract basis, at instances where necessary, was approved by the Cabinet.
