Strategic Cities Development Project - Development of Jaffna City

- The main objective of the Strategic Cities Development Project is to develop a system of environmentally sustainable and well-linked cities. The development of the cities of Kandy and Galle as strategic cities, with relevant facilities has already been commenced under this project, on loan facilities, obtained from the World Bank. Jaffna city too has been identified as an appropriate city to be developed under this programme and therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to proceed with the project, was approved by the Cabinet.
