Construction of the New Courts Complex, Matara
- The Courts Complex, Matara is housed in buildings of over 100 years old, within the premises of Fort of Matara. It has become necessary to house all the Court buildings, comprising of a Civil Appellate High Court, a Provincial High Court, three District Courts, two Magistrate's Courts and a Labour Tribunal under one roof and for this purpose, a portion of land from the land called Kotawilawatta, situated in Matara has been identified. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, to construct the Courts Complex, Matara, at a cost of Rs.1,119.5 million, with a Juvenile Magistrate's Court, a Commercial High Court, a Bank, a Post Office, Rest Rooms and Library for Lawyers, a Community Correction Office, a Legal Aid Office and Family Counselling Office, in addition to the above Courts, was approved by the Cabinet.
