Ratification of United Nations Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts: Amendments to Electronic Transactions Act, No. 19 of 2006
- Sri Lanka signed the United Nations Electronic Communications Convention (UN-ECC) on 07th July, 2015 and thus Sri Lanka is the second country in Asia and the first country in South Asia to ratify this Convention. The purpose of this Convention is to offer practical solutions for the issues related to the use of electronic means of communication in connection with international contracts. The proposal made by Hon. Harin Fernando, the Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure, to amend the Electronic Transactions Act, No.19 of 2006, for the implementation of this Convention in Sri Lanka, which provides necessary facilities to promote Sri Lanka as a hub for e-commerce, was approved by the Cabinet.
