Supply of 150 sets of fishing equipment to the fishermen in the Mullaitivu District under the Indian Grant Assistance

- The fishing community in Mullaitivu area had undergone several hardships by losing their fishing equipment and having suffered damages to such equipment, due to the war atmosphere which prevailed for 30 years. As per the request made by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, in order to provide relief to those fishermen, the Government of India has agreed to provide outboard engines and 150 sets of fishing equipment as a grant. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding to obtain those equipment worth of about Rs.100 million, as a grant of the Government of India, was approved by the Cabinet.
