Port Access Elevated Highway Project - obtaining approval to seek financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank
- It has been proposed to construct an elevated highway of 5.8 km in length from the New Kelani Bridge, Peliyagoda to Colombo Fort, to connect the Colombo Fort area with the expressway network, at an estimated cost of Rs.36 billion, in order to provide easy access to cargo and container traffic from Colombo and suburban areas to reach Colombo Fort and to ease the prevailing traffic congestion in the Colombo City area. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister of Higher Education and Highways, to implement the above project and to secure the funds required for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
