Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishment of the BIMSTEC Grid Inter - Connection

- A programme on Energy Co-operation was adopted at the Ministerial Conference of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Co-operation (BIMSTEC) held in October, 2015 in New Delhi with the participation of the Ministers of the BIMSTEC Member States, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand. As an initial step of this programme, a MoU has been drafted for electricity transmission through Grid Interconnections with the co-operation of Member States. Its vision is to generate electricity and promote optimal power transmission within all Member States. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, to sign the above MoU, was approved by the Cabinet.
