The National Strategic Plan to Monitor and Combat Human Trafficking - 2015 - 2019
- 'Human Trafficking' which is often described as 'modern - day slavery' is a heinous crime condemned by the civilized world. Sri Lanka ratified the United Nations Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children (Palermo Protocol) in 2015. The Protocol acts to prevent and combat trafficking in persons, to provide for the physical and psychological recovery and reintegration of victims of trafficking and to promote co-operation among states, in order to meet those objectives. Accordingly, recognizing the importance of following a multi-stakeholder approach to prevent the heinous crime of human trafficking, the 'Five Year National Strategic Plan to Monitor, Combat Human Trafficking (2015-2019)' developed by the National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, submitted to the Cabinet by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, was approved by the Cabinet.
