Construction of the three Warehouse complexes in the districts of Polonnaruwa, Killinochchi and Ratnapura

- Several initiatives have been taken up in the budget proposals of the year 2016, to enhance the productivity of the agricultural sector and to ensure the food security of the country; and in addition to that, Rs.1000 million has been allocated by the Government to construct three warehouse complexes in the Districts of Polonnaruwa, Killinochchi and Ratnapura, with a view to providing storage facilities, in compliance with higher standards, to the farmers during the periods of excessive harvest, to store their products such as paddy, maize, gingelly, pepper, black gram etc. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Finance, to award the consultancy contract for the construction of the said warehouses, to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB), with the objective of expeditiously completing the project on the construction of warehouse complexes and generating the maximum benefits to the farmers, was approved by the Cabinet.
