Bandaranaike International Airport Development Project - Phase II Stage 2
- With the initiatives taken by the Government for the rapid development of the country, in order to better the connectivity with the world and for the promotion of the Tourism industry, the enhancement of the passenger handling capacity of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) is a vital need. Accordingly, with a view to enhancing the passenger capacity of the BIA, the proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala De Silva, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to enter into a loan agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to obtain the funds required for the Stage 2 - Phase II of the Bandaranaike International Airport Development Project which includes the construction of the state of the art main terminal building of 180,000 m2, the construction of an elevated roadway to enter the said building and the provision of electricity, water, sewerage systems, vehicle parks, sub-runaways and the other infrastructure facilities, was approved by the Cabinet.
