Implementation of the United Nations World Food Programme during the period 2016 - 2017
- The World Food Programme (WFP) formally established its collaboration with the Government of Sri Lanka in the year 1968 and since then, various programmes relevant to the areas such as nutrition, sustainable development, climate change and food security are being implemented in Sri Lanka by the said Programme. A joint proposal for the period of two years from 2016 to 2017 has been developed by the relevant Ministries and agencies, to eradicate the problems pertaining to the food security and malnutrition in association with this Programme, while eleven districts which cover the Provinces of North, East, Uva and Central have been identified for the provision of relief under this Programme. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Prime Minister, Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to implement this Programme during the period of two years from 2016 to 2017, was approved by the Cabinet.
