Awarding of consortium consultancy and construction contracts to the Government Institutions

- The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development has planned to implement the “Sukhitha Purawara” town development programme, to address the major issues of traffic congestion, unavailability of parking facilities, road safety, health problems, housing issues and lack of spaces for recreational activities, caused due to the haphazard development in the secondary cities in the Western Province. Accordingly, projects for the development of strategically important townships in the Western Region, at an estimated cost of Rs.6 billion, are to be implemented within the year 2016. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to assign the projects identified under the above programme, that can be commenced immediately, to the Government Institutions engaged in construction field, on design and build basis, following the competitive bidding method and to award the projects that involve time consuming processes such as land acquisition, to the private consultants and contractors, following the open competitive bidding method, was approved by the Cabinet.
