Project for the Relocation of Manning Market, Pettah in Peliyagoda
- According to the Colombo City Development Plan (2008 - 2020) prepared by the Urban Development Authority (UDA), the areas of Pettah and Fort have been identified as an integrated development zone. According to the said plan, the former St. John's Fish Market was relocated in Peliyagoda and it has been identified to shift the Manning Market which is famous for wholesale vegetables and fruits to the same area, for the purpose of utilizing the area where the Manning Market is presently situated, for the provision of public transport facilities. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to relocate the present vegetable and fruit market in Pettah, in a plot of land in extent of 25 acres in Peliyagoda, owned by the UDA, with all facilities, at an estimated cost of Rs.4 billion, was approved by the Cabinet.
