Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2016-01-13
Formulation of an Act on Sustainable Development
- 'Sustainable Development' means the development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The global community has adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covering areas and sectors especially identified to be achieved by all countries in the world by the year 2030. The Government of Sri Lanka is also bound to act with a view to achieving the said targets. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Hon. Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremasinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to draft necessary legislation for the purpose of making legislative provisions required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, was approved by the Cabinet.
