An Accelerated Programme for the Development of Middle Income Housing & Infrastructure facilities

- The Government has given a highest priority for the development of housing and human settlements and as such a pledge was made to launch an accelerated programme for the construction of 500,000 affordable housing units in the urban and suburban areas, for the lower and middle income families including the public servants and the private sector employees, through the Five Point Plan presented to the general public by the Hon. Prime Minister at the last General Election. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, to implement an accelerated programme to develop housing and infrastructure for the middle income families, was approved by the Cabinet, taking into consideration the recommendation of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management.
