Increase of the limit of monetary value in respect of the disputes to be referred to compulsory mediation
- It was provided in the Section 7 (a) of the Mediation Boards Act, No.72 of 1988, that the disputes in relation to movable or immovable property or a debt, damage or demand, which do not exceed Rs.25,000/- in value should be referred to compulsory mediation. That compulsory limit was increased up to Rs.250,000/- by the Mediation Boards (Amendment) Act, No.04 of 2011. In order to increase this monetary limit up to Rs.500,000/- on present requirements, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, to amend the Mediation Boards Act, was approved by the Cabinet.
