Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2015-12-16

Obtaining approval for the Implementation of Special Flood Mitigation Projects to be carried out in the year 2016 by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation (SLLR&DC)

- The Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation has designed several special flood mitigation projects to be implemented in the year 2016 to mitigate the risk of flood in the areas associated with the capital City of Colombo and so as to ensure an environmentally sustainable township. Under these projects, it is expected to conserve the Muthurajawela marshy land, which has a very rich bio?diversity and to commence the initial studies pertaining to the Kalu Oya Storm Water and Environmental Improvement Project, with a view to preventing floods outside the City of Colombo. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to implement the relevant projects in the year 2016, at an estimated cost of Rs.3,878 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
