Essential expenditure incurred in respect of Preparatory Work involved in launching the National Programme on Food Production (2016-2018)

- Cabinet approval has already been granted to implement the National Programme on Food Production, during the period of 2016-2018, as a pioneer programme of the Government. The programme has been inaugurated on 2015-10-05 in Vaddakkachchi in Killinochchi District under the leadership of H.E. the President and work at District and Divisional levels, too, have commenced concurrently throughout the country. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to distribute seed paddy free of charge among farmers as a main component of the said programme, to promote traditional local production of seed paddy with a view to promoting sustainable farming free of toxic substances, was approved by the Cabinet.
