Submission of the Draft Bill on Right to Information to the Parliament

- The right of access to information has been recognized as a fundamental right in terms of Article 14A of the Constitution of Sri Lanka as amended by the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Gayantha Karunathilaka, the Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, to present the draft Bill on the Right to Information in Parliament, in order to ensure the right of citizens to obtain official information of the Government and implement the principles of democracy and good governance, thereby establishing a better and responsible public service free of corruption in Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
