Amending the Registration of Electors (Special Provisions) Act

- The Registration of Electors (Special Provisions) Act, No.27 of 2013, enacted to provide voting rights for the displaced families and individuals who were forced to flee from Northern Province abandoning their lands and properties and seek temporary residence and accommodation in other parts of the Island, has been in force for two (02) years with effect from 2013-06-20. Considering the need for the operation of the provisions of the Act for a further period of two (02) years for the use of displaced citizens of Northern Province who are currently residing in Puttlam and Anuradhapura districts and anticipating their return to the Northern Province, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, to draft a new Bill incorporating the provisions contained in the Registration of Electors (Special Provisions) Act, No.27 of 2013, was approved by the Cabinet.
