Project for the establishment of Technically Qualified Search and Rescue Teams to deal with Sudden Disaster Situations

- It has been observed that there is a high risk at present for the occurrence of natural disasters such as floods, landslides and cyclones as well as man-made disasters such as chemical hazards. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to implement the project on establishing technically qualified “Search and Rescue Teams”, to assist at times of sudden disasters, at a cost of Rs.349.2 million, during the period from 2016-2018, was approved by the Cabinet.
