Amendment of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996

- In order to have a responsible fishing industry, at the Cabinet meeting held on 2015-10-14, the approval was granted to amend the relevant Sections of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No. 2 of 1996, to enable to increase the fines charged on the persons who violate the laws related to fishing activities in the international waters. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to present the amended Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman, in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
