Project for the Construction of New Houses in the Plantation Sector
- Under this project, the Ministry of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development has planned to construct 1,877 new houses to provide shelter for the families identified from the community associated with the Plantation Sector, making use of the loans and grants provided by the Plantation Human Development Trust. Presently, the construction works of 1,260 houses have been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries and the construction works of another 617 houses are yet to be completed. A house built within a 7 perches of land consists of two bed rooms, a living room, a verandah, a kitchen and an attached toilet has a floor area of 550 sq.ft. The amount of money presently allocated for each house is Rs.515,000/- of which Rs.240,000/- is a non recoverable grant while the balance of Rs.275,000/- is provided as a loan. The proposal made by Hon. Palani Digambaram, the Minister of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development, to revise the amount of money presently allocated to a house as Rs.650,000/- and the grant as Rs.310,000/- and the loan as Rs.340,000/-, was approved by the Cabinet.
