Project to improve the capacity of the Department of Meteorology to forecast weather changes more accurately

- Over 90% of the natural disasters occur in Sri Lanka are weather related and every year hazards are caused in various parts of the country by floods, droughts, lightning and strong winds, etc. Therefore, taking into consideration the necessity of increasing the technological capacity of the Department of Meteorology, to enable it to provide accurate weather information and early warning services, the proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, the Minister of Disaster Management, to implement the project for 'improving the forecasting capabilities of the Department of Meteorology to minimize the impact of frequent weather hazards', was approved by the Cabinet.
