The Issuance of a Commemorative Stamp to mark the 60 years of Sri Lanka-Thailand Diplomatic Relationship
- The year 2015 marks 60 years from the commencement of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand. As per a proposal made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, arrangements have been made to issue two commemorative stamps each, by the Postal Department of Sri Lanka and the Postal Institute of Thailand to commemorate this event. These stamps be issued based on 'Buddhism', which is a common theme for both countries, by which it is expected to develop mutual conviviality between the people of the two countries. The first day issue of these stamps was held on the 02nd November, 2015 in Thailand by the Postal Institute of Thailand, concurrent to the official visit of His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka to Thailand while it is to be held in Sri Lanka by the Postal Department on 20th November, 2015. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. M.H.A. Haleem, the Minister of Posts, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in respect of the issuance of the commemorative stamps, between the Postal Department of Sri Lanka and the Postal Institute of Thailand, was approved by the Cabinet.
