Request for Proposals for the Construction of Houses for the Families affected by the Conflict
- The Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs has been entrusted with the responsibility of constructing houses for the conflict affected families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces on a priority basis. The necessity of fulfilling the shelter requirements in the conflict affected areas has also been emphasized in the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). Accordingly, it has been identified that a further 137,529 houses have to be constructed in addition to the 44,000 houses which are being constructed under the sponsorship of the Indian Government. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, the Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, to request for proposals from both local and foreign parties interested in the construction of houses for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
