Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2015-09-22

Registration of Vehicles of Ministries, Departments and Government Institutions

- The Cabinet noted the information submitted to the Cabinet by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Finance with regard to the vehicles owned by each Ministry, Department and other Government Institutions.

Accordingly, the Cabinet further noted that the registered vehicles owned by the Ministries, Departments and other Institutions of the Government are 59,160 in number and out of these vehicles, a considerable number is found still being used by the Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament and who were engaged in various capacities in the last regime, but not functioning any more in such positions. As such, the Cabinet decided to instruct the Secretaries to the Ministries, to take necessary action to retrieve the Government owned vehicles which are still being used by various persons without official entitlement, without delay.
