Protocol of Phytosanitary Requirements for the Export of Banana from Sri Lanka to China between the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China and the Ministry of Agriculture of Sri Lanka

- Banana is being cultivated successfully in Sri Lanka as if suits with the climatic and environmental conditions prevail in the Country and it is a crop which could be used to meet the local food requirements and to generate export income. There is a healthy potential for the exportation of banana to China through developing trade relations with China, a friendly country of Sri Lanka. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, the Minister of Agriculture, to enter into an Agreement with the General Administration on Quality Supervision, Inspection and Plant Quarantine of China, enabling Sri Lanka to export banana to China complying with laws and regulations on phytosanitary requirements and to provide information on banana cultivation lands and localise packing houses, was approved by the Cabinet.
