Development Project of National Hospital Health Square – Providing Houses for the unauthorized settlers in Bosevanawatte

- Cardiology Unit of the Sri Lanka National Hospital provides an invaluable patient care service to the heart patients of the country. However, the building complex where the Cardiology Unit is housed is very old and the space available in the building is not at all sufficient, in considering the services currently provided by the Unit. As such, the health staff as well as the patients under go excessive difficulties. As a remedy, the Cardiology Unit should be extended, but the prevailing land is inadequate for the purpose. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine, to utilize the adjacent land called 'Bosevanawatte' to improve the required facilities of the Cardiology Unit, by providing the unauthorized settlers reside in the said land with the alternative houses from a Multi-storeyed Housing Project is being constructed at another place under the Urban Regeneration Project of Urban Development Authority, in lieu of the 63 housing units of the said unauthorized settlers, was approved by the Cabinet.
