Providing Domestic Power Supply for resettled families in the North and East, free of charge

- The necessary actions have been taken by the Government continuously to resettle all the families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces displaced due to conflict situation. At present, 232,828 families have been resettled and the number of members belonging to such families are 796,342. Providing those families with electricity, water and sanitary facilities is a responsibility of the Government. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Power and Energy and Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, the Minister of Resettlement, Reconstruction and Hindu Religious Affairs, to obtain an additional allocation of Rs.105 million to provide domestic power supply connections with the 5,000 families resettled in the year 2015, and for providing of electricity supply for 20,000 families resettled in the Northern Province, free of charge, was approved by the Cabinet.
